Eight years ago today, Dec. 2, Bryan proposed to me. I don't think I have ever told the story of that day. It wasn't as magical as some may think. So we were just out of high school, we dated all 4 years of high school - since we were 15. Isn't that crazy. I cannot even imagine Brityn meeting the boy she will marry at the age of 15. Anyway, I had quit my job and was about to move in with my sister in Houston to help her take care of my little Austen while she worked.
Bryan came to visit me one weekend and take me back home to my mom's house for the week. And apparently he had already asked my Dad's permission to marry me weeks before. He says Daddy cried...awww. Well he came and we took off to the Galleria to do some shopping. We shopped, then we ate dinner and he had hardly touched his steak. Very unlike him. So we headed back to the car and were greeted with a very flat tire. Never fails, crap like that always happens to us at the worst time. Well I guess there's never a good time for a flat tire.
So he changed it, put on the spare, then we drove off to find a tire shop that would be open on a Sunday evening. We had NO idea where were going. Neither one of us knew Houston well at the time. After an hour or so of driving aimlessly around we found a tire shop and waited while it got fixed which seemed like forever!!! I was just done with the day, ready to go home. He had other plans though. After that he started driving (remember we have no idea where we were at) trying to find the perfect spot to do his thing. I later I found out it was supposed to be a cool water fall in that area. It was getting late, and he must have seen that I was getting irritated so (PLENTY more where that came from as the years progress..lol) he finally settled for a cozy little spot with benches, well lit with thousands of white Christmas lights. If you know the Galleria area, it is absolutely beautiful during the Holidays. He tells me to get down, and I am wondering what the hell we were doing. I reluctantly got down, I was just so exhausted from the day and ready to get going on the long drive home to Seguin. So he starts talking, and for the life of me I cannot even remember what all he said cause once he started talking I knew what was coming and I just went blank. He got down on one knee and pulled out this ring. And with a small audience of passing cars he asked me to marry him. I said yes of course. Then we hugged and cried and put on my new ring. I was giddy. I only wish I had looked a little better for the occasion. I was in jeans, a t shirt, and sneakers. Before we left the house that day, he asked me if I was sure I wanted to wear that. What did I know, I only knew I was going to the mall then making the long drive home I wanted to be comfy. We got in late that night then we snuggled on the couch and fell asleep.
Thinking about it now I just feel so sorry for him for the day going so wrong. Flat tire, lost in a huge city, nothing went the way he planned...well except for me saying yes.
The day was eventful to say the least, and didn't go very smooth, but will always be part of our story.
