Yes, it's a right of passage, well at least for my kids.
Today I had to call the poison control for my Rylen. He got a hold of the Little Critter's Gummy Vites, and went to town on those. It has a child proof cap, but I had just given them to the big kids, and I guess I didn't close it right. Well the bottle must have been pushed off the table by Brityn who was playing there. I was loading the dishwasher, and noticed he was just way too quiet and was out of my sight in the living room.
I don't think he actually ate them, because they're too chewy, but when I found him on the floor with gummies scattered on the carpet I smelled his breath and it smelled like the gummies, and there was one all wet on the floor. So I counted them to see how many were missing. There are 70 in a bottle I counted 45 and I've been giving 2 a day to each big kid for a while now.
I read the label just to be sure there was no iron in them, sure enough there are not. I will not buy vitamins with iron for the kids cause I've heard too many bad stories about that.
I had to call poison control just in case and she tells me that it's not dangerous no matter how many he ate because those have no iron in them. HUGE sigh of relief.
I remember each kid's first call to poison control. Caden's came last year when he swallowed a tiny battery. That was scary, we had to take him to the ER to get XRayed, then wait to unpleasantly collect the battery after it made it's way out of my little guy.
Brityn's was when she was sick, probably about the same age as Rylen, and I forgot I had already given her a dose of baby motrin. So she had double. I called and cried cause that was such a stupid thing to do and totally my fault. She was fine, just slept really good that night.
So I'll be marking today in his baby book as his first "emergency" and pray that there aren't many of those to come.
